BIOGRAPHY

Bobbie Dell Akin is a modern and contemporary performer, teacher, and choreographer whose work blends bold physicality with curiosity-driven experimentation.

My Story

Dance has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. What began as a childhood love for movement grew into a lifelong passion for performing, creating, and sharing dance with others. Over the years, that passion has continued to evolve, shaping not only the artist I am today but also the way I understand myself and the world around me.

I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where I trained with Peach Pit Dance Company, Candler School of Dance, and Marist School's Advanced Dance Company. I later attended the University of Kentucky, where I graduated magna cum laude in 2025 with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Dance and Integrated Strategic Communication. During my time there, I performed in numerous mainstage and student-produced concerts, served as Dance Captain for the 2024 MainStage Musical Footloose, and began developing my voice as a choreographer through both university productions and the South Regional American College Dance Association (ACDA) Conference.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to perform at festivals and venues across the country, including ACDA, Big Muddy Dance Festival, Dumbo Dance Festival, and Detroit Dance City Festival. In 2024, I expanded my artistic perspective through training at the B12 Dance Festival in Berlin, where I studied with artists whose work continues to influence and inspire me.

Today, I work as a freelance dancer, choreographer, and educator. I have had the privilege of performing works by artists including Theresa Bautista, Christina Carlos, Julio Medina, and Caroline Alcott, and I am honored to be a 2026 Immerse ATL Dance Artist. Whether I am teaching, rehearsing, performing, or creating, I am continually inspired by the challenge of learning, growing, and discovering new possibilities within movement. There has never been anything else I have wanted to do, and I am excited to continue building a career centered around curiosity, collaboration, and a genuine love for dance.

Artistic Statement

Bobbie Dell Akin creates dances that explore ideas, experiences, and questions that demand deeper investigation. Often beginning with a personal experience, relationship, or theme, her work develops through movement-based research, using the body as a tool for discovery, expression, and inquiry. Rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and physical exploration, her creative process incorporates improvisation, conversation, experimentation, and the unique perspectives of the dancers in the room. Bobbie Dell is particularly interested in the body's ability to hold memory, experience, and meaning beyond language. Rather than providing definitive answers, her work invites audiences into a process of questioning, encouraging them to continue unpacking what they witnessed long after the performance has ended.
